Update: We now offer the ClearBlast 150 Wet Media Blaster for Rent, Sale or Lease.
Did you know that the Farrow 150 Wet Abrasive Blasting System is a fast and effective way of removing sealant from paving stones, cement and brick surfaces? Using a standard #6 nozzle and 185CFM Air Compressor, the Farrow 150 replaces the slow and messy process of chemical stripping and power washing commonly used today. A paving restoration company based out of Illinois rented the Farrow 150 and “blasted” through nine different projects in one week; cleaning between 4-6 square feet per minute! Clean up time was also greatly reduced thanks to the use of environmentally friendly crushed glass media. The company is now considering one of Red-D-Arc’s flexible leasing options.

Red-D-Arc designed and built a custom made manipulator with a boom length of 30 ft for a leading tank manufacturing company in the Netherlands. The Red-D-Arc facility had to be customized with a raised roof section to accommodate the height of the large column. The raised roof was later opened, allowing for a crane to hoist the manipulator out of the manufacturing facility and then shipped to the customer.
The manipulator was part of a welding system provided by Red-D-Arc. The system featured a compact welding head designed for welding in narrow spaces, touch screen controls and a high resolution weld monitoring system to allow the operator to monitor the welding process from a safe distance.
We were pleasantly surprised to find this incredible video on the National Geographic website. It’s a bit different from what one might expect i.e. lion, sharks and other natural phenomenon. The video illustrates the power of dry ice blasting. Incredibly, this blasting medium is strong enough to strip hardened tar yet gentle enough to remove the ink from a business card without damaging the paper. Great work by the folks at ColdJet demonstrating this incredible technology.
Red-D-Arc has a complete line of Cold Jet dry ice blast cleaning machines available for rent, lease and purchase.

A Red-D-Arc customer shared some interesting photos which document the process of extending the legs of a large seabound work platform and also feature several Red-D-Arc turning rolls. The platform is used for cleanup activities on the seabed and in order to work at greater depths; the legs of the work platform needed to be extended. The massive cylindrical legs were placed on Red-D-Arc turning rolls and rotated while the cutting and welding processes were carried out. Once the extensions were completed the legs were then returned to the platform.
Red-D-Arc delivered three submerged arc systems to a construction company from Willebroek (Belgium) which has acquired a record contract for the construction of foundation structures to be used in an offshore wind farm close to the German-Dutch border. The Red-D-Arc manipulators are 23 ft x 23 ft and are equipped with a double wire system powered by the ESAB 1250 for welding 4 mm cored wire. In addition, each of the manipulators included a seam tracking system and flux recovery unit. Thanks to the advanced electronics and touch screen interface controls the turnkey systems each require only a single operator.
A customer involved in the rebuilding of a hydroelectric power generation station came to Red-D-Arc with a unique challenge: Use induction heat to help separate a massive rotor from its center shaft assembly. A traditional approach is to use a combination of open flame along with dry ice which would have taken several weeks to set up and also ran the risk of being ineffective due to the scale and complexity of the project.
Sil Nonis, an induction heating specialist at Red-D-Arc, suggested using 6 induction heating units activated in sequence to provide thermal growth in a uniform pattern; releasing the interference from the center shaft before lifting the rotor. The 6 Miller ProHeat 35 Induction Heating Systems powered two half circle assemblies, positioned at the bottom of the locking ring which was 5′ in diameter as well as two half circle assemblies positioned on a top locking ring which was 4′ in diameter. Massive rotor arms also had 4 pads attached to them, positioned in sequence.
Setup took approximately 2 days and removal of the rotor was completed in a single day. The same process will be used to reinstall the rotor after it has been rebuilt. Over the next few years two additional rotor assemblies will be removed, rebuilt and reinstalled using the same process.
Red-D-Arc UK delivered and installed a new vertical cladding facility for a manufacturing facility in Doha, Qatar. Red-D-Arc’s logistics team arranged for the equipment to be air-freighted to the new manufacturing facility in Qatar where Engineers awaited the arrival to begin installation.
The installation consisted of a Red-D-Arc automation controller, 4×4 manipulators, 2×1 cross-sides and a 20 ton floor turntable. This took Red-D-Arc engineers only three days to fully install and weld test. They were able to begin on-site training shortly after.

Red-D-Arc is supporting the development of future welding industry professionals thanks in large part to Joe Nagy – Regional Operations Manager for Canada. Joe reached out to Ed Stavnitzky, student achievement leader from the District School Board of Niagara (DSBN) and welding instructor Bill Meloche from the Grimsby Ontario High school welding tech shop to discuss ways in which Red-D-Arc could support their efforts. The DSBN adult welding program trains adults to CWB standard 4G and prepares them for a career in the welding industry. Red-D-Arc provided nine wire feed packages and a plasma cutting machine; helping to get this community project off the ground. Ten students started the program in the Summer of 2015 and eight finished with all position CWB certification. Ed and Bill recently informed Joe that seven of the eight graduates are employed in welding or welding related industries throughout the region. Joe has since reached out to Dan Tadic Executive Director at the Canadian Welding Association (CWA) and is in discussions to partner with the CWA Foundation Charity to help students, institutions and industries right across Canada.
