In addition to portable stick, MIG, flux-cored and spool gun welding, the GX300XL also allows you to perform in-field Touch Start TIG welding with Pulse capability.
DC TIG Welding with Optional High-Frequency
For DC TIG welding without high frequency, the GX330XL is available with an air-cooled TIG torch, gas regulator, and a K780 Foot Pedal, and a K930-2 TIG Module can be included which enables high-frequency arc starting.
For AC TIG Welding, add a Square Wave TIG 200
For AC TIG welding with high frequency, you can power a Lincoln K5126-1 Square Wave TIG 200 (which includes a PTA-17 TIG torch and a K5126-1 Foot Pedal) from the 120/240 VAC dual voltage, full-power receptacle on the front control panel of the GX330XL.
Setting TIG Weld Parameters
Arc controls for TIG welding can be selected using the digital display (GUI) on the front of the machine. After pressing the Home button, you can rotate the knob to the TIG position, then select TIG by pushing the large main button. To access the Ready.Set.Weld feature, press the Help button while still in TIG mode, then rotate the main knob to select various parameters.
Pulse Feature for Better Weld Puddle Control
Pulse TIG welding helps minimize burning through thin metals, and can help to increase travel speed which can result in smaller bead width. Lower heat input may lessen warpage of parts, especially stainless steel materials. The Pulse TIG feature on the GX330XL can be adjusted via the control knob which sets the Pulse Frequency from between zero and 20 pulses per second. The pulse setting automatically regulates the output current between the peak amperage, set by the max output control and the remote amptrol (if used), and a background amperage setting that is equal to 50% of the peak amperage setting. The Peak Pulse % on-time is fixed at 50%.
Amptrol Remote Controls
Various Amptrols are available which plug into the 6-pin MS connector on the front of the machine. When the remote is enabled, a bar appears on the display screen that shows a preset value showing the remote range, and the maximum and minimum values of the range can be adjusted to desired values. By reducing the range, the sensitivity of the remote is increased.
Other Accessories
TIG accessories for the GX330XL include a 200 amp air-cooled TIG torch and adjustable gas regulator (both required) as well as a Foot Amptrol (for remote weld current adjustment), a Wireless Foot Amptrol, a Hand Amptrol, a K390-2 TIG Module for high-frequency starts, a K936-3 TIG Module Cable to connect the TIG Module to the GX330XL and a Gas Cylinder Holder. Refer to operator manual number IM10560 for more information on how to set up your GX330XL for DC or AC TIG welding.
